Artist Statement

I see my art as the means of a viewing the world beyond modernity, to a non-conditioned state where our choices do not depend on what we have already experienced. The art I make is an attempt to describe a reflection of an awareness that has fully raised its consciousness to perceive the world around us in its purest state.

In The Future of Art and Art Education I question what happens when we raise our consciousness to the heightened state, of being able to perceive nature at its purest state. For example seeing painting as formation of galaxies, music in terms of the vibratory rate of suns, sculpture as the formation and decay of mountains, and theater… theater being the perception of the universe as itself. Nothing is more dramatic, awe-inspiring or beautiful than being able to see the play put on by consciousness in its most novel form. Will there will be a time where making art will only limit the boundaries of what we can perceive? Will there no longer be a need to test the boundaries of perception and reality because we will already be able to perceive nature in its totality? These questions drive my art to test the reality of these boundaries.

Also through art, I test the boundaries of my own perception as well as to continually develop and push the conceptual and imagistic envelopes in which our society is willing to tolerate. Through the means of sculpture, photography, printmaking and painting, I express these fundamental concepts.
